Wedging clay assignment
Objective: Students will understand and apply media techniques correctly to ensure higher quality of work
National Standard 1: Understanding and applying media, techniques and processes
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Wedge a block of clay about the size of a softball.
Why is it important to prepare your clay properly before use?
Wedging is important for three main reasons.
1. It removes hidden air pockets from the clay. If those air pockets are not removed, it could result in the clay exploding in the kiln.
2. It allows the stagnant particles in the clay to get in motion making it easier to control and work the clay.
3. It makes the clay an even consistency, making it easier to work with.
